Between January and September 2018, Russia imported 376.6 bln RUB worth of ready-made pharmaceutical drugs (free circulation prices), which is in monetary terms 1% higher than that of the same period of 2017, and 81.1 bln RUB worth of in-bulk drugs, which is 16% higher than that of the same period of 2017. The total dynamics in monetary terms are +3.3%.

Between January and September 2018, there was not any major changes in the ranking of the top pharmaceutical distributors, except for the top places. The first three places have changed, with Puls having reached first place after quite a struggle. The changes are not that surprising, which we discussed in our previous review (Q1 – Q2 results.)

Between January and July 2018, Russia imported 55 bln RUB worth of APIs (free circulation prices, VAT included), which is in monetary terms around 30% higher than that of the same period of 2018. The dynamics in physical terms are -2%, with 6.7 tons of APIs.

Between January and July 2018, Russia imported 36.5 bln RUB worth of veterinary products, which is in monetary terms 15.6% higher than that of the same period of 2017: 20.7 bln RUB of feed supplements (+17.3%), 14.6 bln RUB of veterinary drugs (+12.6%), and 1.2 bln RUB of veterinary APIs (+23.6%.)

Between January and July 2018, Russia imported 291.3 bln RUB worth of ready-made pharmaceutical drugs (free circulation prices), which is in monetary terms 3.2% higher than that of the same period of 2017. The dynamics of the import of in-bulk drugs are +28%, with 62.0 bln RUB. The dynamics of the total pharmaceutical drug import in monetary terms are +7%.

Between January and August 2018, Russia produced 212.8 bln RUB worth of pharmaceutical drugs (dispatch prices, VAT included), which is in monetary terms only 0.1% higher than that of the same period of 2017. In physical terms, Russia produced 2.61 bln units. The dynamics are -10.4%, which have been gradually decreasing for 10 months.

On the one hand, the first six months of 2018 for the Russian pharmaceutical retail was marked by a slight recovery in demand, which, despite failing to bring the segment out of the red zone, promised some growth by the end of the year, unless the macroeconomic situation changes.

As of June 2018, a number of large Russian pharmaceutical wholesalers have experienced a significant revenue and market share decrease. The top three players in the rating are still the same, but the difference between the companies has already approached the boundaries of a statistical error, so the change of the leaders is a matter of time, which does not necessarily mean that the first and second places should switch spots.

Between January and July 2018, Russia produced 186.5 bln RUB worth of pharmaceutical drugs (dispatch prices, VAT included), which is in monetary terms 2.5% higher than that of the same period of 2017. In physical terms, the dynamics are still negative, -10.4%. Over the period, Russia produced around 2.29 bln units of pharmaceuticals.
