Database Update: API Import to Russia (December 2017)
Between January and December 2017, Russia imported 74 bln RUB worth of APIs (free circulation prices plus VAT). Pharmacopoeial APIs take up most of it (97.5%) and contributed to the total import volume in monetary terms, which has risen by 22% in comparison with the same period in 2016. Pharmacopoeial API import has risen by 23% over the year, and imports of technical raw materials have decreased by 5.5%.
API import volumes in monetary terms have also risen by 6% since 2016. However, the rate of import of pharmacopoeial API raw materials is way behind that of technical APIs (+5.2% and +26.3%, respectively). In 2017, Russia imported around 12.4 tons of APIs.
China is still the main supplier of APIs to Russia. Chinese imports lead the way both in monetary and physical terms, with a 19.3% and almost 68% share in monetary and physical terms, respectively, since 2017. In 2017, Russia imported 278 different API names (according to INN) from China. In monetary terms, API import from China has fallen by 6%.
Argentina made the best progress in monetary terms; API import to Russia from Argentina has increased by 9.4 times. Despite that, its share in the total volume of imports is 0.2%. In 2017, Russia imported only 2 API names from Argentina. Glatiramer acetate, which was imported by R-Pharm for production of Glatirat, had the biggest share.
